Q: Does the workshop provide any financial aid?
A: Unfortunately we are unable to provide any financial assistance.
Q: What is covered in the registration fee?
A: Shared housing (two people per room) is included in the registration fee;
single rooms will raise your costs and availability may be limited. Workshop material and instructions will be
provided for free. However, meals are not included. We estimate meals cost about
$30 to $40 daily.
Q: I am not sure whether I could legally stay in the US for the workshop
without a visa, or if this is not the case, what visa I would need. Do you know
what the current regulations are and can you sponsor my visa application?
A: Please check all US entry-related matters on your end, as different countries
have different immigration agreements with the US. We are not able to help with
the entry process to the US. As of October 26, 2004, there are some changes that
international travelers to the U.S. should be aware of. For the latest
information about obtaining visas, visit the web site:
http://travel.state.gov/visa/index.html
Q: Which airport should I fly into? What are other transportation options?
Please see the 'Map and Directions' page at the Club Quarters-San Francisco site for transportation details.
Q: Can I stay longer before/after the workshop?
A: We only provide housing from 6/25 (check-in) to 7/1 (check-out is that
morning). You have to arrange with the
Club Quarters-San Francisco
by yourself if you would like to stay longer.
Q: How does the pairing of room-mates work and would people know who they
would share rooms with before arrival?
A: Pairing will be mostly done at check-in time. Participants will not be
notified in advance.
Q: Where can I eat?
A: There are many restaurants with good prices within a few
minutes walking distance. Please see here for
a list of nearby restaurants or check a guide such as the
San Francisco Convention &
Visitors Bureau site for more information. We estimate meals cost about $30 to
$40 daily.
Q: Am I registered as a UIUC student for the workshop?
A: No. The workshop participants are not legally registered as students at UIUC.
Attending the workshop is comparable to participation in any conference or a
professional meeting and does not establish any formal association with UIUC.
Q: Will I have internet access at The Club Quarters-San Francisco?
A: Internet access is available in rooms.
Q: Are there any events of interest occurring in San Francisco during the
week of workshop?
A: Please click here to see a list of events
or check a guide such as the San
Francisco City Guide or the
San Francisco Convention &
Visitors Bureau site for more information.
