Hi,
  Proxies are configured via the Tcl http package. You should be able to
configure your proxy in your VMD .vmdrc file with commands similar to these:
  package require http
  ::http::config -proxyhost yourproxy.yourdomain.com
  ::http::config -proxyport 80
