One of my colleagues just made me aware that our mailing list got modified
to _automatically_ rewrite incoming reply-to addresses for users that
post from yahoo.com to overcome problems with Yahoo's implementation of
DMARC back in 2014. I was traveling during the time period the change
was made so I was unaware of the details of this until yesterday. The upshot
of this is that ANYONE that posts to VMD-L from a yahoo.com email address
will get their reply-to rewritten as a means of preventing DMARC failures,
as described here:
http://www.ks.uiuc.edu/Research/vmd/mailing_list/vmd-l/23598.html
I will document this unusual behavior on the VMD-L mailing list
subscription page so that people are aware of it in the future.
It was news to me that our system was doing this, and I hadn't encountered
that kind of bounce until yesterday, so I'm fairly sure that few
others have run into it up to this point.
Best regards,
John Stone
