Hi,
  What version of Tcl/Tk did you compile your source builds with?
It is possible you've found an issue with a particular rev of Tk (e.g. 8.6.x?)
that affects those two plugins. I know there are a couple of other plugins
that still need some minor revision in order to work under Tk 8.6.x.
It is possible that the same is true for these two. That being said,
the X protocol errors are pretty unusual, and that strikes me as being
something related to low level interactions between Tk and the windowing
system on your OS. What Linux distribution are you running?
