look at your first e-mail in this thread. you wrote that you ran
"./configure LINUX". that is not what the installation instructions
say.
there are a *ton* of people that have successfully installed VMD over
the years, including on ubuntu (and the installation instructions have
not changed much nor the launch scripts or makefiles). so it very
likely is not a VMD issue, but some step where you didn't follow the
instructions properly.
