VMD Publish/Sync Feature in BioCoRE
March 2001:
Urbana, Illinois - The Theoretical Biophysics Group at the University of Illinois is proud to announce an exciting new feature of BioCoRE, a collaborative research environment. BioCoRE software is freely available for use at the Theoretical Biophysics Group website. BioCoRE development is supported by the NIH National Center for Research Resources.
This feature allows you to save VMD sessions to the Notebook and start VMD with them later.
When you start VMD from BioCoRE (via the 'Launch VMD' option in the workbench toolbox), you will get another little window, in addition to the usual three VMD windows. It contains two buttons:
- Publish: This will save your current VMD session into the Message Board. Follow the instructions. (It will get easier soon.)
- Quit: Quits VMD, and informs BioCoRE about it too. Please use this button to quit VMD.
In the Message Board, you can click the drop-down box at the top left and choose "Saved VMD Sessions" to view your saved sessions. Clicking a session will show you the session as text, with a "START VMD SESSION" link at the top. Clicking on this link will sart up VMD with the saved session.
Note: Currently, publish/sync works only from Netscape on Unix machines and needs for the pdb, etc files to exist in the same location as they were when the session was published. These items will soon be resolved.
For additional information, please visit the BioCoRE website at http://www.ks.uiuc.edu/Research/biocore/.
The Theoretical Biophysics group encourages BioCoRE users to be closely involved in the development process through reporting bugs, contributing fixes, periodical surveys and via other means. Questions or comments may be directed to biocore@ks.uiuc.edu.
We are eager to hear from you, and thank you for using our software!
